Remember that a\u00a0subsidy<\/strong>\u00a0is a financial donation from a public body to a person or group of persons that is non-refundable. Its purpose is to help carry out an activity that involves significant financial expenditure or that the person in question has not been able to carry out.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It should be noted that obtaining a grant requires the submission of a specific application.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The government has\u00a0extended deadline<\/strong>\u00a0for the delivery of\u00a0aids to enterprises<\/strong>\u00a0y\u00a0freelancers<\/strong>\u00a0beyond the deadline of 31 December. These \u20ac7 billion grants were approved in March 2021 and will be distributed by municipalities. However, most of the autonomous regions have stated that they will not be able to offer more funding unless the eligibility restrictions in the decree are changed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Out of a total of 7 billion euros, the Balearic and Canary Islands received 2 billion euros. The remaining 5 billion dollars were distributed among the autonomous communities of the mainland.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The\u00a0autonomous regions received 6,973.87 million euros<\/strong>according to Ministry estimates. Regional governments have paid $5,166.78 million of the total. They have also returned 776.58 million euros to the Treasury, an improvement on February's estimates of 1.7 billion euros to be returned.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the Royal Decree, \"without prejudice to the fact that they may retain the funds necessary to meet any payments that may arise from the assessment of appeals in administrative proceedings brought against rejection decisions issued before 31 December 2021 and which are pending resolution\", the Communities may reimburse the difference between the maximum amount arising from the applications and the amount granted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The remainder of the unpaid debt must be settled by 30 June 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It should be recalled that \"the restrictions imposed on the self-employed and small businesses to justify aid\".<\/strong>\u00a0have been a bone of contention for both autonomous communities and business groups.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition, the implementation of the so-called Next Generation EU Recovery Facility, worth 750 million euros, will mean a total of 140 billion euros in transfers and loans for Spain alone between 2021 and 2026, for the implementation of investments, transformations and structural reforms that lead to a transformation of the economy, the production model and society. All of this is detailed in the Spanish Government's Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, which was submitted to the European Commission.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In this scenario, various administrations (ministries, autonomous communities and some municipalities) have been applying for tenders, subsidies and public aid since the second quarter of 2021. As of 31 December 2021, 11 billion euros have been awarded to autonomous communities, and more than 6 billion euros will be made available to local entities in the first half of 2022, with grants and tenders being the main means of distributing EU funds.<\/p>\n
